SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse got back into the win column Sunday afternoon with a dominating 82-48 victory over UMBC in the Carrier Dome. Digna Strautmane and Teisha Hyman paced the Orange squad, scoring 17 and 16 points respectively. Amaya Finklea-Guity recorded back-to-back double figure games following up her 11-point outing at Michigan where she had 13 points. All in all, five total Orange broke the 10-point plateau.
Â
"It's good to be home," head coach Quentin Hillsman said. "We've been on the road for a long time. We've traveled 6,000 miles and played some tough games. I thought we got better, and we will be better for doing that. To get back home and play well, I'm really pleased by that. We got out of this game. We only had two turnovers in the second half, which is huge for us. We took care of the ball and got a shot every time we got down the court which was big. I thought Teisha was fantastic. She's finally getting herself going, and she's a really good player. Teisha is really a tough-tough guard in the half court. And when you get her playing downhill and playing off ball screens she's going to be really tough and shooting the ball well. I thought overall it was a good effort by the team. The second half was fantastic."

Of note:
- Amaya Finklea-Guity recorded back-to-back double figure games, putting up 11 against Michigan and 13 today. Her 13 points were also a season-best.
- UMBC's only lead of the game was a 6-5 edge in the third minute of play. Syracuse's Finklea-Guity sank a layup to put Syracuse back in front, the Retrievers never retook the lead.
- Teisha Hyman set a career mark dropping 16 points, second-most to Strautmane (17). Hyman was a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe and had three assists with a pair of steals.
- Digna Strautmane tied her career 3-point mark sinking five treys against UMBC. Strautmane also tied her season high with 17 points 17.
- Five players hit double digits for the second time this season. 'Cuse previously accomplished the feat Nov. 28 against Houston.
- This is the second-straight game four Orange have each scored at least 10 points.
- The win was Syracuse's largest margin of victory this year.
- Whisper Fisher's six points set a personal record.
- This was the first time Syracuse has held a team to under 50 points since the Orange's 70-49 victory over Fordham in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament.
How it happened:
- The Orange and Retrievers went point-for-point to open the game before Syracuse scored nine-straight to take a 14-6 lead halfway through the first quarter. IT sparked a 12-3 Orange run that helped balloon Syracuse's lead to 17-9. UMBC responded with a 6-0 run of their own to close the quarter and bring the score to 17-15.
- The Retrievers continued to fight and stayed within four for the majority of the second stanza until the Orange went on an 11-2 run in the final four minutes to carry a 38-27 lead into the locker room.
- Strautmane led the team in scoring at the half, putting up 14 points in the opening 20 minutes. She went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, and was a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe. The trio of Gabrielle Cooper, Emily Engstler, and Amaya Finklea-Guity all had five rebounds too.
- The Orange continued to pull away in the third as they opened the third stanza on an 11-2 run to take a 20-point lead (49-29). Finklea-Guity became the second player to hit double figures during the run after hitting two layups to bring her point total to a season-best 13. Redshirt junior Kiara Lewis put up 10 points in the third quarter alone. Hyman put a stamp on the third when she hit a step-back trey at the buzzer to make the score 64-39 'Cuse.
- The fourth was all Syracuse as UMBC was held to just nine more points to Syracuse's 18. Hyman put up eight of those on her own, and the final stanza kicked off with a perfect 15-0 run for the Orange.
