SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse is ranked No. 4 in both the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and Inside Lacrosse media rankings released on Monday, Feb. 25. The Orange jumped four spots in the coaches poll and three spots in the media rankings after posting their first top-five win of the season, a 15-14 overtime victory against then No. 4/5 Northwestern on Sunday.
Â
Syracuse's win against the Wildcats improved its record to 4-1. The Orange led for the majority of the game, but a 5-0 scoring run by Northwestern gave the Wildcats a 14-12 advantage with 7:05 remaining. Syracuse scored at the 5:18 mark to cut the deficit to one and freshman Megan Carney found the back of the net to tie the game with 25 seconds left in regulation, sending the game to overtime. Northwestern won the draw to start the extra session, but a turnover gave the Orange possession and junior Emily Hawryschuk netted her fourth goal of the day to give Syracuse the victory.
Â
The top four teams are the same in both polls. Boston College, the only team to defeat the Orange this season, is ranked No. 1, followed by Maryland and North Carolina. Syracuse's next four opponents are all ranked in the top 15 – Loyola (No. 13/12), Virginia (No. 6/7), Maryland (No. 2/2) and Florida (No. 11/13).
Â
The Orange host Loyola on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse will celebrate Pink Day. Admission and parking are free. The game will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
