
Hawryschuk, Defliese Earn Preseason All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Syracuse juniors Kerry Defliese and Emily Hawryschuk were voted to the women's lacrosse Preseason All-ACC Team in a vote by the league's head coaches. Both were all-conference selections last season.

Defliese started all 19 games on defense last season and was tied for second on the team in caused turnovers with a career high 15. She also ranked third in ground balls (20) and draw controls (42), recording personal bests in both categories. Defliese was voted to the All-ACC Second Team and earned All-Northeastern Region First Team honors in 2018.

Hawryschuk capped off her 2018 season with selections to both the All-Northeast Region and All-ACC First Teams. She led the squad in points with 51 and goals with 53, both of which were career highs. Hawryschuk scored four or more goals in a game seven times throughout the season. In addition, she finished with career highs in draw controls (34) and ground balls (20).

The coaches picked Syracuse to finish fifth in the preseason poll. The Orange earned 35 points in the poll. National runner-up Boston College was picked to win the conference, garnering 63 points. North Carolina earned 55 points for second place, followed by Virginia Tech (39 pts.) and Virginia (37 pts.). Notre Dame, Duke and Louisville rounded out the poll.

The Orange open the 2019 campaign on Friday, Feb. 8 when they host Connecticut in the Carrier Dome at 3 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
