SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange wide receiver Jamal Custis and defensive lineman Chris Slayton will take part in the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine later this month at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The two Syracuse stars were included among the 338 official combine participants, released today by the NFL.
Â
A 2018 All-ACC Second Team choice, Custis led Syracuse with 906 yards on 51 catches and six touchdowns this past season. He ranked fifth in the ACC in receiving yards per game (69.7) and averaged a team-best 17.8 yards per catch. Custis also proved to be a valuable contributor on special teams, making two tackles and recovering a fumble as a gunner on the punt team.
Â
In 40 career games for the Orange, Custis had 64 receptions for 1,048 yards and eight scores.
Â
Slayton served as Syracuse's defensive team captain last season. He made 24 tackles, including eight for a loss, and 3.5 sacks from his defensive tackle position to aid an Orange defense that tied for third nationally in takeaways (31) and set a program record with 43 sacks.
Â
A 2018 All-ACC Honorable Mention choice, Slayton played in 49 games for the Orange (41 starts) from 2015-18 and tallied 107 tackles. He ranks ninth in team history with 32.5 tackles for loss. Additionally, Slayton recorded 9.5 sacks and forced five fumbles during his career.
Â
Both Custis and Slayton were selected to play in last month's East-West Shrine game, the nation's longest-running senior all-star game. Custis started for the East and had four catches for 55 yards. Slayton recorded one tackle and one quarterback hit.
Â
The NFL Scouting Combine is the premier pre-draft evaluation and scouting showcase for college prospects hoping to be selected in the NFL Draft. This year's combine runs from Feb. 26 to March 4. Each position group goes through four days of testing, which includes everything from interviews with NFL franchises and medical examinations to on-field drills and workouts.
Â
Custis is scheduled to arrive on Feb. 27 with on-field testing for receivers set for March 2. Slayton arrives on Feb. 28. On-field testing for defensive linemen is March 3.
Â
The 2019 NFL Draft is April 25-27 in Nashville, Tenn.
