THE DUKE SERIES
- This will be Duke's first trip back to the Syracuse since 2017. The ACC opponents have played annually since 2011, but the all-time series started in 1938. Syracuse won that matchup 17-5.
- Cuse leads the all-time series 12-6.
- Head Coach John Desko is 9-5 in the 14 meetings with the Blue Devils.
- The Orange have won three-straight against the Blue Devils, dating back to the 2016 ACC Championship game in Kennesaw, Ga. 'Cuse has won the last two by one goal apiece, with Jamie Trimboli being that one goal in each. Trimboli scored the overtime game-winner during his first collegiate start when the teams met in 2017. He buried a rebound last season as well to win it.
- Sunday's matchup features the two winningest teams over the last decade. Since the start of the 2008 season, Syracuse boasts the best winning percentage at .764 (146-44), while Duke is right behind with a .763 winning percentage (168-52). No other program has won more than 3/4 (.750) of their games in that stretch.
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
- Playing a home game outside is an extremely rare occurance for the Syracuse men's lacrosse program. In fact, it's been 30 years since the team last played a true home game outside.
- Due to the Syracuse women's basketball team's tremendous regular season, the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament will take place in the Dome, thus the Orange had to enact their longstanding contingency plan to play at CNS High School.
- The last time Syracuse played an outdoor home game was in 1989 against Penn, when 'Cuse defeated the No. 9 ranked Quakers in an astounding 22-1 route at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Coyne was the previous home to the Orange before the Dome's completion in the fall of 1980 and is now where the SU field hockey team plays.
- Sunday's outdoor game could be a good omen as the team boasts a 12-game winning streak in outdoor home games (all at Coyne Field) dating all the way back to April of 1979. The team has played outdoor games in 1989, 1986 (twice), 1983, ran the table at home in 1980 before the Dome opened and won its home finale in 1979.
- Carrier Dome conflicts have forced the Orange into remarkably few schedule changes over the years, but it has happend. Most recently, Syracuse played at Johns Hopkins for the second year in a row in 2017 to accomodate the potential to host the NCAA women's basketball tournament and famously moved the 1989 season opener back to Johns Hopkins as the Carrier Dome palyed host to Bon Jovi. That 1989 game was the only loss in a three-year span for the Orange, prompting legendary head coach Roy Simmons Jr. to say "we would have been undefeated all three seasons if it weren't for Bon Jovi."
CONFERENCE KINGS
- Prior to SU's OT loss to Virginia earlier this year, the Orange owned a nine-game winning streak in league play in the nation's most difficult conference.Â
- Since joining the ACC, Syracuse boasts a 14-8 record in league games and also has two ACC Tournament titles. Duke holds the second-best mark in that period at 13-8 (Syracuse has played one ACC game already this season). Notre Dame (12-10), North Carolina (10-11) and Virginia (4-19) make up the remaining records.
- 'Cuse was 4-0 in league play in each of the last-two seasons and has never finished worse than 2-3 (2014), its inaugural season in the league. The Orange have been .500 or better each year since.
- For that dominance, Head Coach John Desko has become the first coach in the history of the league to win ACC Men's Lacrosse Coach of the Year in four-straight seasons. No other coach has done so even three times.
A WIN AGAINST DUKE WOULD...
- Be the program's 908th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve SU's record to 63-22 since the start of the 2014 season.
- Make the Orange 5-1 vs. ranked opponents this season.
- Give Syracuse a 4-1 record in its last five games and a 7-3 record in its last 10 games against top-5 opponents.
-Â Make the Orange 13-6 all-time against Duke.Â
- Give Cuse a 13-game winning streak in outdoor home games.
DRAFT DAY
- Austin Fusco (Charlotte) and Tyson Bomberry (Boston) were both selected in the fourth round of the MLL entry draft in March.
- No program has had more players selected than Syracuse, which has seen 63 players taken since the inaugural draft in 2001.
- 20 of those were first round selections, which also leads all colleges.
