SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Two of the Tar Heel State's top programs step foot inside Drumlins Country Club this weekend, as the 28th-ranked Syracuse women's tennis team hosts No. 2 North Carolina and No. 10 NC State.
First serve between the Orange and Tar Heels is set for 4 p.m. Friday, March 29, while Syracuse clashes with the Wolfpack at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 31. Admission and parking are free.
Sunday's dual against NC State will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse moved up four spots to No. 28 in the latest Oracle/ITA poll, which was released Tuesday, March 26. The Orange were previously tabbed as No. 32 in the country before defeating then-No. 15 Florida State, 4-3, last Sunday. The Orange have won seven of their last nine dual matches, including two of their past three against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
Senior Gabriela Knutson and junior Miranda Ramirez are Syracuse's lone ranked competitors. Knutson is ranked No. 40, and Ramirez claims the 90th spot in the most recent singles poll.
In doubles, Knutson and Ramirez are the Orange's top duo. They are ranked No. 71 nationally in doubles.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS
North Carolina is ranked second in the national poll. UNC is unbeaten in conference play entering Friday afternoon's match.
The Tar Heels have four ranked singles competitors, led by No. 3 Alexa Graham and No. 5 Makenna Jones. No. 9 Sara Daavettila and No. 25 Cameron Morra are North Carolina's additional ranked student-athletes.
Two of North Carolina's doubles duos are nationally ranked: No. 3 Cameron Morra/Makenna Jones and No. 8 Jessie Aney/Alexa Graham. Aney and Graham are 13-0 this spring, playing primarily at the No. 1 position for the Tar Heels.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
NC State is tabbed as the 10th-ranked team in the nation. The ranking is the highest in the Wolfpack's history.
Anna Rogers is the top-ranked singles player for NC State. She is No. 31 in the country, having won nine of her last 10 singles matches.
Teammate Alana Smith checks in at No. 70, while Adriana Reami is featured at No. 116 in the singles poll. Smith, a freshman, is riding a six-match winning streak.
In doubles, Rogers and Smith are the ninth-ranked duo in the nation. The mark is the second-highest doubles ranking in school history.
WHAT LIES AHEAD
Two more duals remain in the Orange's five-match homestand. The Orange square off with Pitt at 3 p.m. Friday, April 5 in the penultimate home match of the season before facing Miami at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 7 in the final home dual of the year.
