THE GAME
- Syracuse plays the Midshipmen at Navy for the first time since 1982 as the Orange seek their first winning streak of four-or-more games since the 2017 season.
- The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network, with John Sadak (pxp) and Evan Washburn (analyst) on the call. Brian Higgins and Kyle Fetterly will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
THE NAVY SERIES
- The Orange and Navy meet Saturday for the 29th time, with Navy controlling the all-time series, 19-8-1. However, seven of Syracuse's wins have come in the last nine meetings.Â
- Syracuse renewed its rivalry against Navy last season, when the Midshipmen visited the Dome and played the Orange for the first time since 2004.
- Syracuse's history with the Midshipmen dates back to May 3, 1919, when the Orange lost to Navy 12-1. In the most recent contest, Navy snapped a five-game winning streak for SU by scoring two goals in the last nine seconds to emerge victorious.
AGAINST THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
- Syracuse is 110-76-2 all-time against the seven current members of the Patriot League.
- Syracuse faced three Patriot League opponents in 2019, in Army, Navy and Colgate.
- In addition to the 8-19-1 record against Navy, 'Cuse is 26-40 against Army, 48-12-1 against Colgate, 8-0 against Bucknell, 3-2 against Lehigh, 19-5 against Loyola, and has never faced Boston University, Lafayette or Holy Cross.
TOURNEY TIME
- Syracuse's ACC tournament seed is still in limbo heading into the final week of the season, however the Orange know that their opponent will be North Carolina, regardless of the outcome of the last ACC game. The game between Notre Dame and North Carolina will determine the final seeds for everyone but Virginia, who has clinched the no. 1 seed.Â
- If UNC wins, a three-way tie between Syracuse, Duke, and North Carolina would force a tiebreaker. In this case, the tiebreaker would be head-to-head records versus the tied teams. Syracuse would get the two-seed with a 2-0 record, UNC would get the three-seed with a 1-1 record, and Duke would get the four-seed with a 0-2 record.Â
- If Notre Dame wins, a three-way tie between Syracuse, Duke and Notre Dame would force a tiebreaker. Since the head-to-head records for all three teams is 1-1, the tiebreaker would cause Duke to receive the no. 2 seed because of the win over the no. 1 seed Virginia. In that case, Syracuse lost to Notre Dame, pushing SU to the four-seed and giving the Fighting Irish the three-seed.
TEN BELOW
- Syracuse has won 58-straight games when holding opponents to under 10 goals in a game.
- 38 of those games have come since the start of the 2015 season, including a high of 11 in 2016. Syracuse has done so five times this year - including each of the last-three meetings.
- The last time Syracuse failed to win when keeping its foe to single digits was on April 28, 2012, when the Orange fell at Notre Dame, 8-6.
A WIN AGAINST NAVY WOULD...
- Be the program's 912th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve SU's record to 66-26 since the start of the 2014 season.
- Give John Desko 253 career wins as head coach, tying him with Roy Simmons Sr. for the second most wins by a head coach in SU history.
- Improve Syracuse's record against Navy to 9-19-1.Â
