SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse softball team is set for its final ACC series of the 2019 season as they welcome defending national champions #5/6 Florida State to Skytop May 3-5. The opening game of the series is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday followed by a 1 p.m. first pitch Saturday. The series finale is set for 12 p.m. Sunday afternoon. All three games will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
Prior to Saturday's game, Syracuse will recognize its four seniors – Hannah Dossett, Alicia Hansen, Bryce Holmgren and Logan Paul.
After a tough weekend against Georgia Tech, Syracuse (21-28, 8-13 ACC) rebounded with a 3-0 shutout win against Cornell Wednesday afternoon. Alexis Kaiser opened the game strong for 'Cuse with a huge solo home run in the first inning. Two additional runs came in the sixth following an RBI-double by Hannah Dossett and a sacrifice fly from Lailoni Mayfield.
Miranda Hearn has excelled in the last month of the season for the Orange, allowing just six earned runs since April 12. The sophomore posted a 2.43 ERA in the month of April and held opponents to a .212 batting average. Hearn recorded the first complete game shutout of her career in a five-inning victory against Binghamton before coming back a week later with her first career seven inning shutout victory against Cornell. Against the Big Red, Hearn struck out a career high eight.
Florida State (45-8, 16-5 ACC) has won seven-straight games following a 4-0 loss to then-#6 Florida on April 17. The Seminoles are looking to secure sixth ACC series win of the season and lock up the number two seed of the ACC Tournament. The steady pitching staff has been led by three-time All-ACC First Team honoree, Meghan King who leads the ACC with a 1.48 ERA. King also ranks 16th in the country in shutouts and is 29th nationally in strikeouts.
Syracuse trails Florida State 2-19 in the all-time series, but lost two games to the Seminoles last year by a combined two runs.
The Orange look toward postseason play with the ACC Tournament May 8-11 in Tallahassee, Fla. Seeding will be determined following the final weekend of play. All games of the tournament will be broadcast on RSN prior to the championship game airing on ESPN.
