Men's Rowing Secures IRA Championship Bid as Automatic Qualifier
5/21/2019 8:37:00 PM | Men's Rowing
The Syracuse University men's rowing team is headed to the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championship Regatta May 31 through June 2 as an automatic qualifier. The Orange, who rank ninth in the nation and recently finished seventh at Eastern Sprints, head to Sacramento, Calif., in search of another top-10 finish at IRAs.Â
"We have been very fortunate to qualify for the IRA every year since it switched to an invitation only regatta and I think others outside our program might assume it is automatic or an easier task that it actually is," head coach Dave Reischman said. "The Eastern Sprints is a very tough league! It is a very big deal for our guys to secure an automatic qualifier and it never gets old. We had some uneven practices during finals week and through graduation and our guys were able to not let that shake their confidence and perform on the day when it mattered most. We are looking for more of the same at the IRA's."
Syracuse will race Yale, Boston University, Penn, Wisconsin and Santa Clara in Heat 1 of the preliminary races on May 31.Â
The 2V8+ is assigned lane three in Heat 2 of the prelims while the 3V8+ is in lane two of Heat 3.
'Cuse will race Marist, BU, Princeton and Drexel in the final heat of the varsity four preliminary next Wednesday. Â
