'Cuse Looks to Send Hurdler to Nationals for Eighth-Straight Season
5/22/2019 8:52:00 AM | Track and Field
The men's 110-meter hurdles will be the second 'Cuse event at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, with Richard Floyd kicking off Friday's competition.
Thursday preview: Men's and Women's 10k.
Floyd is looking to join a long list of Coach Hegland protégés to advance to the NCAA Championships. At least one Hegland disciple has qualified in the 100 or 110-meter hurdles every year since 2012. Floyd is making his second-straight trip to the NCAA prelim round.
EVENT INFORMATION
- Six heats of eight runners will comprise the first round, with the top-24 advancing to the quarterfinals on Saturday. The top-three in each heat plus the next-six fastest times will advance.
- Runners will also compete in the west regional in the same format, with the top-12 from each quarterfinal combining for 24-runner semi/finals on June 5/7.
- The meet will be streamed live on FloTrack
- Live results will be available through the NCAA
- The meet will take place at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.
MEN'S 110-METER HURDLES PREVIEW
Floyd will compete in the sixth of six heats, where his seed time of 13.96 seconds ranks fifth in the heat.
Overall top-seed Grant Holloway (13.07) of Florida is also in Floyd's heat, but the two will be as far as possible away from one another. Floyd drew in lane nine, while Holloway drew lane two. Behind Holloway, Floyd is right in the mix with the rest of the field. Jackson State senior Azariah Foster has the second-best seed time in the heat, just 0.25 seconds ahead of Floyd. Saint Francis' Dashaun Jackson (13.74), Jackson State's Loftin Keys (13.94), Hampton's Jaelen Williams (14.04), South Alabama's Junter Appling (14.04) and Navy's Clayton Thompson (14.09) round out the heat's seed times in succession.
Other people in the field besides Holloway with top seed times are Kentucky's Daniel Roberts (13.07) and South Carolina's Isaiah Moore (13.25), who will race in heat two and three, respectively.
