
Romero Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Junior Alexa Romero earned her second consecutive All-ACC Academic nod as the 2019 All-ACC Academic Softball Team was announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference Thursday afternoon. Romero is pursuing a degree in selected studies in education from the School of Education.Â

In 2019, Romero became the third Syracuse pitcher all-time to surpass 500 strikeouts before moving into second with 576 in her career. She ranks third at Syracuse with 42 career wins and is among the top five in nine different career categories. The junior concluded 2019 with 13 wins and 176 strikeouts. Romero, who led the nation a year ago in strikeouts per seven innings, led the ACC in 2019 with 8.5 strikeouts per seven innings and ranked among the top 30 nationally. Â

Entering her senior season in 2020, Romero ranks among the top-10 active Division I players in career strikeouts and strikeouts per seven innings.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Shannon Doepking, the Orange went 21-32 in 2019 and qualified for its fourth consecutive ACC Tournament.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
