
Steuerwald Named Assistant Softball Coach

Former Utah Valley associate head coach Michael Steuerwald has been hired as an assistant softball coach at Syracuse.

The head coach of the Chicago Bandits in the National Pro Fastpitchleague (NPF) from May 2010-to-January 2017, Steuerwald led the team to championships in 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2017. He was part of the NPF Coaching Staff of the Year in 2010 and 2013. The Bandits were 163-113 overall and 19-6 in playoff competition under Steuerwald.
He also had assistant coaching stints with Rockford College (Ill.) and Elon (N.C.), and was the head coach at Cuesta College (Calif.). He was an assistant coach with the Rockford Thunder of the NPF in 2009.
Steuerwald earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Maranatha Baptist College in 2005, a master of arts in teaching from Rockford College in 2008, and a master's degree in educational, school and counseling psychology from Missouri in 2016.
Syracuse was 21-32 overall and earned a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament in Doepking's first campaign as head coach.
