
12 Orange and 'Cuse Women Honored for Academic Success

Twelve Syracuse student-athletes were honored for their academic success this year, garnering USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors, while the 'Cuse women's track and field team was named a Scholar Team of the Year.
Noah Affolder (health and exercise science), Iliass Aouani (civil engineering), Eunice Boateng (psychology), Rachel Bonner (Biology), Laura Dickinson (psychology), Aviana Goode (communication and rhetorical studies), Michael Phillips (communication and rhetorical studies), Dasia Pressley (communication and rhetorical studies), Matthew Scrape (biology), Paige Stoner (selected studies in education/psychology), Aidan Tooker (communication and rhetorical studies), Cheyenne Trigg (psychology/forensic science) were honored for their academic and athletic success.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25. Additionally, they need to finish the indoor season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay event and must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships for the outdoor season. All but two of the Orange's twelve selections return next season.
Affolder won the 3000m at the Iowa State Classic this indoor campaign and later nabbed Second Team All-ACC honors for his indoor performance in the 3000m.
Aouani, a Milan, Italy native, concluded his decorated season with two ACC championships, ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year honors, and the ACC and Syracuse record in the 10,000m with a time of 28:25.36. He placed 20th in the 10,000m at the 2019 Outdoor Track and Field Championships earning him honorable mention All-America honors. He's now a three-time All ACC-Academic selection as well.
Boateng, a sophomore from Ajax, Ontario, won both the 60m at the Mark Deneault Invitational and the Cornell Indoor Upstate Challenge during this year's Indoor season. She was part of the 4x100-meter relay team that smashed their own school record, earning her Second Team All-ACC accolades and qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminary round.
A distance runner Port Huron, Michigan, Bonner finished second in the mile at the John Thomas Invitational with her personal best time of 4:46.14. Her performance in the indoor 3000m earned her Second Team All-ACC honors this year. She also qualified for the NCAA East Prelim in the 5k.
Only a sophomore, Dickinson earned USTFCCCA Second Team All-American honors and a silver medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the ACC Outdoor Championships setting a PR of 10:10.19. She was a two-time All-ACC honoree this outdoor season, taking fourth in the 5k to compliment her steeplechase performance. Â She returns to the Orange next year coming off a 15th place finish in the 10000m at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Goode, a communication and rhetorical studies major, kicked off the season with a win in the long jump at the Greg Page Relays. Her efforts in the 60m hurdles and the high jump at the Ramapo Opener also earned her a first place finish in both events. She picked up a silver and two bronze medals in the 2019 ACC Indoor Championships for the high jump, 60m hurdles, and long jump, respectively.
A Tallahassee, Florida native, Phillips was a member of the winning DMR team at the Cornell Indoor Upstate Challenge as a freshman. His indoor mile PR at the Boston University Classic of 4:02.57 earned him First Team All-ACC and a bronze medal in the event.
Pressley returns as a USTFCCCA All-Academic individual for her second season in a row. As a member of the Orange 4x100-meter relay, she helped the team qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary round. In indoor, she finished seventh in the 60m hurdles at the Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge with a personal best time of 7.52.
Scrape was the lone true freshman Orange competitor to qualify for an NCAA Championship event on the track. He reached the NCAA East Prelim in the 5000-meters, capping off a strong rookie campaign.
Stoner, a highly decorated five-time All-American and NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee, won both the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 5000-meters at the ACC Championships. Paige also set a new PR in the 5000m in a time of 15:28.47 at the Payton Jordan Invitational, in a field full of professional runners. She capped off a stellar career at Syracuse finishing seventh in the 10,000-meter run at the 2019 NCAA Track and Field Championships, earning USTFCCCA First Team All-America honors once again and graduates holding four school records.
Tooker, a distance runner from Saratoga Springs, had his outdoor season cut short due to injury. In indoor, he broke the four-minute mark in the mile at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational with a personal best time of 3:59.39. He set another personal record in the 5k at the Stanford Invitational, while finishing sixth, with a time of 13:48.55.
Trigg, a psychology and forensic science dual major, finished third in the 60m with a time of 8.01 seconds at the Greg Page Relays. The sprinter also took home sixth in the 4x100 at the ACC Championships that nabbed a Second Team All-ACC nomination in that event and broke a Syracuse record en route to qualifying for the NCAA East Prelims.
