
#19 Syracuse and #5 UVA Meet on ACC Network Friday

Syracuse, N.Y – Syracuse University's field hockey team looks for its third-straight win and first over a top-5 opponent on Friday night when the Orange (5-1) meet No. 5 Virginia (5-1) at J.S. Coyne Stadium. Slated for a 4:30 p.m. start on ACC Network, it will be the first ACC Network production of an Orange field hockey game on the new 24/7 national platform.

'Cuse is 2-0 at home this season with a pair of overtime wins, most recently against No. 14 Saint Joseph's on Sept. 13. Laura Graziosi has scored both overtime game-winners for the Orange. Freshman Charlotte de Vries leads the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with seven goals and ranks fifth in the nation in goals per game (1.17) and points per game (2.5). Goalkeeper Sarah Sinck is second in the ACC in saves per game (2.83) and fourth in save percentage (.767). The Orange moved up four spots to No. 19 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Poll after Friday's win over SJU.
Virginia is 5-1 with its only loss to then-ranked No. 4 Maryland, 3-2, in a shootout on Sept. 13. The Cavaliers are coming off a 3-0 shutout win against Yale last Sunday. UVA moved up one spot in this week's NFHCA Coaches poll and head coach Michelle Madison is seeking her 400th career win (399-240-8) as a head coach. Goalkeeper Lauren Hausheer leads the ACC in save percentage (.839) and saves per game (4.33), while ranking sixth nationally in save percentage. Makayla Gallen leads the team with five goals and 10 points. Four other Cavaliers have scored multiple goals this season.
Following Friday's game on ACC Network, the Orange depart for a four-game road stretch, beginning Sunday in Hamilton, N.Y., against Central New York foe Colgate at 1 p.m.
