SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse women's soccer (2-4-1) opens ACC play in Pittsburgh on Friday, Sept. 20, with a 7 p.m. match against Pitt (3-4-1) on Ambrose Urbanic Field. Fans can watch the action on ACC Network Extra.
"We're really looking forward to starting ACC play against Pitt," head coach Nicky Adams said. "It's going to be a tough conference season but we're getting a few players back from injury so that will help us return to our goal-scoring ways."
Last Time Out
The Orange hosted the Fordham (1-5-2) at SU Soccer Stadium last Sunday in a game that ended in a 0-0 tie. With the result, Syracuse completed its non-conference schedule with an undefeated home record. 'Cuse limited the Rams to just six shots through 110 minutes.
Shot Stopper
Junior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx has been between the sticks in every Orange contest this year and has an ACC-best 34 saves on the season heading into Friday night. Proulx averages 4.86 saves per game, and her 10 saves at Auburn on Sept. 5 are the most an ACC goalkeeper has recorded in a single game this year.
With Sunday's draw, Proulx has one-upped her two-game stint of goalless matches from 2017. This is the first time since 2016 that Syracuse hasn't allowed a goal in the first three home matches of the year.
Scouting the Competition
Pitt is 2-1-1 on its home turf this season and is coming off a 1-0 road loss to Liberty on Sunday.
The Panthers finished 2018 with a 4-12-1 record and didn't record a single victory in 10 conference matches. The meeting on Friday will mark the first matchup of the two teams since 2017, a game which Syracuse won 2-0. Syracuse leads the all-time series 12-5-3 (3-2-0 ACC).
What Lies Ahead
Syracuse returns home on Sept. 26 to host Louisville at 6 p.m. for student appreciation night and to celebrate national pancake day. The first 100 fans will get free pancakes.
Syracuse's game against Pitt will be shown live on ACC Network Extra, but fans can only watch it if their cable provider carries the ACC Network. Fans unsure if their provider carries ACCN are strongly encouraged to visit GetACCN.com.
