
#19 Orange Face #2 Duke in First ACC Road Game

Syracuse, N.Y. – In the first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) road game of the season for the 19th-ranked Syracuse field hockey team, the Orange are pitted against No. 2 Duke (7-0) for their second top-5 opponent in league play this season. 'Cuse (6-2, 0-1) lost its ACC opener, 2-0, to No. 5 Virginia last Friday night. The Orange and Blue Devils meet at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX).
Syracuse is hot off a 3-1 non-conference win at Central New York foe Colgate last Sunday. The Orange were led by Charlotte de Vries who tallied a pair of goals in the win. De Vries ranks second in the ACC and eighth in the nation in goals per game (1.13) and is ninth nationally in points per game (2.38). Pacing the team with nine goals and 19 points, the freshman has scored in seven of Syracuse's eight games.
SJ Quigley is second on the team in points (8) and has a team-best four assists. The Syracuse goalkeeper duo of Syd Taylor and SJ Quigley have combined for 31 saves this season and a .721 save percentage. Defensively, the Orange rank ninth in the nation and lead the ACC in defensive saves (3) and are second in league in saves per game (3.88).
Duke's goalkeeper Sammi Steele leads the nation in goals against average (0.54) allowing just four goals in seven matches. Hannah Miller leads the offense with seven goals on 18 shots while Leah Crouse has four goals and four assists to rank second on the team in points with 12.
Friday is the first meeting between the two since last season's ACC Tournament where the Blue Devils eliminated Syracuse with a 4-1 win. The two met during the regular season on Sept. 14 when Duke shutout the Orange, 1-0. Prior to the 2018 season, 'Cuse held a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series. The last time Syracuse traveled to Durham, the Orange earned a 2-1 win over the Blue Devils on Oct. 7, 2017.
Syracuse continues its four game road stretch with a pair of west coast games against Cal and Stanford next weekend before returning home to play No. 1 North Carolina on Oct. 12.
