2019 'Orange Out' Shirt Honors Tim Green

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse-Clemson football game will feature a tribute to Syracuse legend Tim Green and is being billed as an "Orange Out." Green's No. 72 jersey will be retired at halftime of the Orange's home opener Saturday, Sept. 14 against the Tigers. All Syracuse fans are invited to participate by wearing the official version of the "Orange Out" t-shirt that pays homage to Green. The back of the t-shirt features Green's name and number.

A portion of the proceeds from sales of the shirt will be donated to Tackle ALS, a partnership between the Green family and Massachusetts General Hospital, to raise money for ALS research. Shirts are available for pre-order or in person at the Syracuse University Bookstore and will be available at local retailers during the week leading up to the home-opener against Clemson.

In November 2018, Green revealed that he was diagnosed with ALS in 2016.

Green, Syracuse's all-time sacks leader, is the first predominantly defensive player in the 130-year history of the program to have his jersey retired and the sixth overall. Green joins Larry Csonka (39), John Mackey (88), Donovan McNabb (5), Don McPherson (9) and Joe Morris (47) as former Syracuse standouts in that elite group. The No. 44, worn by 25 players, including legendary running backs Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little, is also retired.

Green tallied a school-record 45.5 sacks and 341 career tackles, the most for a Syracuse down lineman, from 1982-85 to help the Orange begin their football resurgence under head coach Dick MacPherson. A member of Syracuse's All-Century Team, Green posted three of the four highest season sack totals in Orange history. In addition, he's responsible for three of the top four tackling seasons ever by an SU down lineman.

Syracuse's single-game ticket allotment for the Clemson game is sold out. The only way to guarantee a seat to watch the Orange and Tigers is through the purchase of a season ticket.
