SYRACUSE - The Syracuse women's soccer team (2-2-0) continues its four-game stretch of road games this weekend with a Sunday date with Kent State in Kent, Ohio. Syracuse and the Golden Flashes kickoff at 1 p.m. in Dix Stadium.
The Orange started the week at Auburn where the Tigers took a 2-0 victory thanks to two second-half goals. The Orange put up seven shots on the Tigers and saw junior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx record a career-high 10 saves in the match.Â
"They're one of those teams that's at the top of their league," head coach Nicky Adams said. "I know they're very very good at home and there will be a bit more adversity as they play on turf in the football stadium, but our team just has to go in with one vision and stay focused."
Looking Back
Syracuse is coming off its first loss of the season, a 2-0 defeat from Dartmouth on Sunday. The Big Green took advantage of a 9-5 shot advantage in the contest. Despite the outcome, junior goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx showed promise between the sticks with four saves, including multiple stops coming in difficult situations.
Scouting the Competition
Auburn shutout Maryland, 4-0, before losing, 3-1, to Virginia Tech, in its most recent action. Junior Sarah Houchin found the back of the net twice and seniors Bri Folds and Jessie Gerow each tallied twice versus the Terps. In the matchup against the Hokies, Auburn's lone goal came on a penalty kick from Folds.Â
The Tigers went 12-6-2 (4-5-1 SEC) last season and return their leading scorers in Folds (9 goals, 7 assists) and Gerow (5 goals, 2 assists).
Kent State is coming off back-to-back losses to Colorado, 2-1, and Denver, 1-0, last weekend. The Golden Flashes lone tally came off the foot of redshirt sophomore Karly Hellstrom.Â
Kent State posted a 10-8-2 (6-4-1 MAC) mark a year ago and a 2-1 road win over Syracuse in double overtime on Sept. 13.
The Golden Flashes feature juniors Vital Kats and Maddie Holmes, who scored eight and six goals, respectively, last fall. Redshirt sophomore Faith O'Neill has been handling the goalkeeping chores for Kent State. She recorded 58 saves last year while registering a .699Â save percentage.
What Lies Ahead
Syracuse concludes its series of road matchups on Thursday, Sept. 12 at St. John's. The Orange then return to the SU Soccer Stadium for a September 15 encounter with Fordham. It is Military Appreciation Night and both parking and admission are free.Â
