Syracuse enters Sunday's matchup 2-1 in league action and is on a two-game win streak after back-to-back overtime wins at home for the first time in Carrier Dome history. Syracuse upset #8 Florida State on Jan. 2 and then beat defending national runner-up Notre Dame on Sunday, Jan. 5. The Orange have had a week to prepare for its meeting with the 'Canes.
Syracuse is led by Kiara Lewis (17.8 ppg), who was named ACC and National Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Monday. Lewis averaged 24.5 ppg last week and had back-to-back 20-point games.
Emily Engstler leads the ACC with 11.3 rebounds per game and is fourth in the nation in defensive boards per game (9.3). She also paces the team in blocked shots (25) and blocks per game (1.8), which rank third in the league.
Miami is fresh off its worst loss of the season, 87-41, to #7 Louisville in the Watsco Center on Thursday night. The Hurricanes have lost three-straight games and are winless in 2020. ACC Preseason Player of the Year Beatrice Mompremier has missed the last two games after sustaining an injuring during Miami's 61-54 loss at Georgia Tech on Jan. 2.
Mompremier leads the team with 16.3 points per game in 13 appearances. She is also the team leader in rebounds per game (10.4). Mykea Gray is second on the team in scoring with 11.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
Miami leads the all-time series 20-10 but the Orange hold the advantage, 4-3, with each team's current head coaches at the helm. Last time the two met, #18 Syracuse upset #16 Miami, 92-85, in the 2019 ACC Tournament Semifinals.
