
Orange Ranked No. 4 in Preseason Coaches Poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse will begin the 2020 season at No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. The IWLCA preseason poll was released on Monday, Jan. 27. The Orange return four of their top five scorers and all but one member of its starting defense from last year's squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.

Defending national champion Maryland edged out North Carolina for the No. 1 spot. The Terrapins received 15 first-place votes and earned 608 points, while the Tar Heels garnered 10 first-place votes and 605 points. Northwestern is ranked No. 3 (556 pts.), followed by the Orange at No. 4 (546 pts.).

ACC schools took five of the top 10 spots in the poll. Boston College is No. 5, while Notre Dame is No. 7 and Virginia No. 8. In addition, Duke is No. 21, and Virginia Tech came in at No. 23.

The Orange will face each of the top five teams in the preseason rankings and 10 of the top 25, including No. 11 Loyola and No. 13 Stony Brook. Of those 10 games, only three will be at home.

Syracuse opens the 2020 campaign on Friday, Feb. 7 against Canisius in the Carrier Dome at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
