LOOKING TO START A WIN STREAK
• Following a victory against Georgia Tech in the home opener and a bye week, Syracuse returns to action on Saturday when Duke comes to town.
• It will be the second-straight season Syracuse has faced Duke, a scheduling oddity of the COVID-19 pandemic that changed the ACC's scheduling model. Under normal circumstances, Duke wouldn't have visited the Orange again until 2025 after their 2019 meeting in Durham.
• The game will air on ACC Regional Sports Networks (YES Network in New York), with Tom Werme '91 (PxP), James Bates (analyst) and Abby Labar (reporter) on the call.
GAMEDAY CENTRAL
• Saturday's game is presented by Dunkin'.
• Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring the health and safety of our student-athletes, campus and Central New York community, fans are not permitted at Saturday's game in accordance with state and local guidelines. Tailgating in Syracuse University lots is also prohibited.
• Fans are encouraged to join in Syracuse's new interactive experience "'Cuse on the Couch", presented by KeyBank. It's a virtual second-screen show that will begin at 12 p.m. and continue through the duration of the game that is free on the Cuse app or Cuse.com. It aims to elevate the virtual fan experience, especially when our fans can't watch the home opener in person. The show will be hosted by Brian Higgins '04 and will be augmented with live updates, in-game statistics and on-demand video content.
SERIES HISTORY
• This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Duke and Syracuse, and the second year in a row the two schools will meet.
• The Blue Devils lead the series 3-1. Syracuse dominated the most recent matchup at Wallace Wade Stadium, 49-6 in 2019.
• This is the third pairing between the two programs as ACC opponents. Their lone two encounters prior to that were in 1938 and 1939, with Duke winning both matchups.
• With the 10-game conference slate this season, Syracuse will play four games against what were ACC Coastal opponents, including Duke, to start the season. 'Cuse is 5-6 under head coach Dino Babers in games vs. the ACC Coastal. Babers is 4-5 vs. this year's slate of teams, having faced North Carolina, Duke and Pitt in his Syracuse tenure before this season.
LAST TIME VS. DUKE
• Syracuse rushed for 286 yards, led by a pair of 100-yard rushers in Moe Neal and Jarveon Howard, to lead Syracuse to a 49-6 win. The Orange scored four rushing touchdowns in the win, including Jawhar Jordan's first collegiate touchdown. Neal, Howard and QB Tommy DeVito accounted for the others.
• TE Luke Benson and WR Trishton Jackson each caught touchdown passes, as well.
• DB Andre Cisco returned an interception for a touchdown, headlining a defensive effort that held the Blue Devils to just 157 yards through the air.
BALL HAWKS
• Syracuse intercepted four passes in its 37-20 victory over Georgia Tech, the highest single-game total in head coach Dino Babers' five-year tenure, and the most interceptions by a Syracuse team in 14 years.
• Four different players came away with picks, including the first-career interceptions by freshmen DBs Ja'Had Carter and Rob Hanna. Defensive tackle Josh Black also came down with his first-career pick, while DB Trill Williams added the fourth of his career.
• The last time Syracuse picked off four-or-more passes in a game was on Sept. 9, 2006 vs. Iowa, a game where 'Cuse fell in double overtime to the No. 14 ranked Hawkeyes.Â
BYE, BYE, BYE
• Since 2009, Syracuse is 11-7 in games when it has an additional week to prepare, including a 7-7 record in regular-season games after a bye. The Orange's other four victories in that time were bowl wins that followed the 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2018 campaigns.
• Head coach Dino Babers has won two of his last three games with an additional week of preparation. The 2018 Orange defeated West Virginia (Camping World Bowl) and North Carolina in 2018, but lost to NC State in 2019 on a Thursday night contest following a bye weekend.
TEMPO TOUCHDOWNS
• Head Coach Dino Babers is known for having a fast offense and when the Orange have struck in 2020, they've done so quickly.
• Seven of Syracuse's nine scoring drives have come on drives of 2.5 minutes or less this season.
• Since the start of 2019, 40 of the Orange's 65 scoring drives have been in 2:30 or less.
