Williams Announces Intention to Declare for NFL Draft

Syracuse junior defensive back Trill Williams will opt out of the remainder of the 2020 season and declare for the NFL Draft, Williams announced on Wednesday.
"I can't begin to express how humbled I am by the love you've shown me throughout my time here," Williams said in a letter penned to 'Syracuse Nation.' "From day one you've made me feel welcome, and because of that I played as hard as I could for you every week. Coach Babers, Coach Monroe and the rest of the coaching staff took a young kid and helped him on his journey to becoming a man. I'll forever be grateful.
"The memories I've made with my brothers here will last a lifetime and I wouldn't have wanted to share those with anyone else. We all play this game with hopes of reaching the highest level and now it's my time to open that door. It's been a dream of mine to play in the NFL since I was six years old. With that being said, I will forgo the final four games of the season and submit my name into the 2021 NFL Draft."
Williams played in 28 games, making 93 tackles, four interceptions, three forced fumbled and 3.5 tackles for loss in his three seasons on campus. An electrifying player in the secondary, Williams scored three memorable touchdowns at Syracuse including forcing a fumble and returning it for a win against Wake Forest in overtime during the 2019 season finale.
"We appreciate everything that Trill has done for this program during his time at Syracuse University," said head coach Dino Babers. "We wish him nothing but the best as he pursues his dream of playing professional football."
Williams is the second member of the SU secondary to publicly announce their intention to declare for the draft this fall. Preseason All-American Andre Cisco did so after suffering a season-ending injury prior to the Georgia Tech game.
The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held from April 29-May 1 in Cleveland, Ohio.
