Orange Sweep the Weekend, Rout Lindenwood

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse ice hockey dominated Lindenwood in an 8-0 routing at Tennity Ice Pavilion Saturday afternoon to complete the season sweep of the Lions and earn an important two points in the College Hockey America (CHA) standings. Seven different players sounded the horn, with senior Allie Olnowich recording the lone unassisted goal and game-winner. With the win, Syracuse (12-16-2, 10-4-2 CHA) ties Robert Morris for second place in the CHA standings. The loss leaves the sixth-place Lions (5-21-3, 3-13-1 CHA) at the bottom of the table. The win was Syracuse's first shutout since Jan. 18 against Robert Morris, and marked the first 8-goal game since Jan. 10 against Mercyhurst.
Â
"It was nice that we scored a lot of goals and Allison didn't let any in," head coach Paul Flanagan said. "Tonight was about staying focused and keeping our feet moving and opening up opportunities while also staying sound defensively and keeping to good habits. Every game in the league is important when you're trying to win a championship but at the same time we have to be ready for the playoffs."

How it happened:
Both teams started off strong but it was Syracuse who got on the board first. Senior Allie Olnowich recorded her first goal of the season just three minutes into the first period to put Syracuse ahead 1-0. Syracuse continued to outshoot the Lions throughout the opening frame, getting off 14 shots to Lindenwood's seven.
Â
The intensity picked up in the second period as Syracuse came in hot, scoring twice within the first two minutes to eventually add six goals to the board. Syracuse showed no sign of slowing down as Lauren Bellefontaine, Kelli Rowswell, Kristen Siermachesky, Abby Moloughney, and Mae Batherson all lit the lamp. Six penalties were called in the middle frame, with the Lions sending four skaters to the box.
Â
The quick pace of the game settled a hair heading into the third, with both teams competing evenly throughout the entire period. Emma Polaski added a final goal toward the end of the third period to secure the victory for the Orange. Goalie Allison Small recorded her third shutout of the season with the win.
Â
Syracuse recorded 63 shots on goal to Lindenwood's 19. The starting goalie for the Lions, Annika Asplundh, recorded 30 saves before she was yanked after allowing six goals. Reliever Julia Maguire made 25 stops. Small recorded 19 saves in her fifth win of the season.
