
Orange Duo Score at ACC Championships

A pair of Orange distance stars scored at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night.
Joe Dragon finished fourth in the men's 5000-meter final, running to a time of 14:02.03. He was edged by Virginia Tech's Peter Seufer in 13:58.28. for the overall win. Dom Hockenbury (14:23.68), Nathan Lawler (14:27.57), Noah Beveridge (14:33.37) and Matthew Scrape (14:34.86) also raced in the event for Syracuse.
Annie Heffernan picked up the first Orange women's points of the meet in the 5000-meter run with a seventh-place finish in 16:26.72. Emily Nugent also competed for 'Cuse, finishing in 17:46.74. Virginia Tech's Sara Freix won the event in 16:13.69.
The Orange got a qualifier to Saturday's final in the 60-meter hurdles. Tyler Garland ran a personal-best time of 7.96 seconds to finish seventh and advance to tomorrow's eight-man final. Jamil Adams (8.11) finished 10th, narrowly missing, Naseem Smith (8.17) and Andrew Aguilera (8.45) finished 12th and 18th, resepectively.
Dennisha Page ran to a personal best in the 200, finishing in 24.31 seconds, good for 16th. Page's time was the third-best mark for a freshman in the event. Dasia Pressley (24.37) and Aja Davis (25.61) also ran in the 200. In the men's race, Jordan Davenport raced to a time of 22 seconds flat.
Davis also ran in the 60-meter dash where she posted the second-best time among freshman. She crossed the line in 7.52 seconds in 16th. Chris Tucker took 18th in the men's race, finishing in 6.92 seconds.
In the women's mile, Kate Kemnitz ran to a personal-best time of 4:56.03. She was also the top freshman in the event, taking 20th.
Nathan Henderson (4:09.43) was edged out of the finals in the men's mile by less than a second. Taking third in his heat, he missed the automatic berth from his heat by 0.63 seconds. His time was the 10th fastest overall, but he didn't earn one of the 10 qualifying spots. Stephen Schulz (4:11.37) and Joey Eovaldi (4:17.35) also raced in the mile.
The ACC Championships conclude tomorrow at Notre Dame.
