Historic opening game for the new #22 headlines season opener
Sophomore Chase Scanlan scored the most goals ever by a player in their Syracuse debut with seven and Stephen Rehfuss (1-7) posted the second-most assists in Head Coach John Desko's 22-year career to have the 'Cuse offense humming in their season-debut victory over Colgate.
The No. 6 Orange (1-0), used goals from 11 different players, headlined by Scanlan's seven, Jamie Trimboli's four and Lucas Quinn's first collegiate hat trick, to defeat Colgate (0-2), 21-14. The six offensive starters combined for 24 points in the victory and the 21 goals is the most since the 2018 season.
"There are definitely some good things we did today and some things that we really have to break down in film and get better at," said head coach John Desko. "All in all, it was a good day. We always like to start the season with a W."
Drake Porter made 11 saves in net for the Orange and the faceoff unit was dominant, combining to win 25-of-39 restarts. Jakob Phaup (15-of-22) and Danny Varello (10-of-17) were each solid.

The game started with a quick goal by Colgate in the first possession. The Orange responded with back to back goals from Peter Dearth and Scanlan. The two teams traded the next two goals, and the Orange had a 4-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
Â
