SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Four straight singles wins propelled the Syracuse University women's tennis team to a 4-3 victory against St. John's on Friday at Drumlins Country Club. The Orange lost the doubles point and an injury to Polina Kozyreva had SU down 2-0 before singles play began due to forfeiting the sixth singles match. Syracuse lost the No. 1 singles match before winning four straight to secure the comeback victory. Miranda Ramirez, Zeynep Erman and Kim Hansen won their singles matches in two sets each and then Sofya Treshcheva secured the win for the Orange with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory at No.3 singles.
Â
"Being down with the 3-0 deficit, coming back and taking it to them on the last couple courts was extremely good for us," said head coach Younes Limam. "Knowing that it came down to Sonya's (Treshcheva) match, the way she handled the situation, the way she played, was very inspiring for all of the team."
Â
