The Syracuse men's lacrosse team finished the 2020 season ranked No. 1 in the Inside Lacrosse/Maverik Media Poll.
The Orange took over the top-spot on March 7, and have kept it since. The ACC and NCAA cancelled the remainder of their spring events due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic after the Orange moved to 5-0 on the season.
'Cuse headlined the poll with 387 points and 11 first-place votes. Fellow undefeated teams Cornell (379, seven first-place votes), Princeton (364, two first-place votes) and North Carolina (330) are next, with Yale (316) rounding out the top-five.
All-five ACC teams were ranked, with four in the top-nine.
Statistically, Syracuse concluded the shortened season as one-of-six undefeated teams and finished in the top-10 nationally in 10 of the 16 nationally kept statistical categories by the NCAA. 'Cuse had the sixth-best scoring offense, fifth-best scoring margin, second-fewest turnovers per game, third-most ground balls per game, fifth-best faceoff winning percentage, fifth-best clearing percentage, eighth-most caused turnovers per game and 10th-most points per game this season.
Individually, the Orange saw two faceoff men (Danny Varello and Jakob Phaup) finish in the top-12 nationally in faceoff win percentage. Stephen Rehfuss had the third-most assists per game nationally to quarterback the offense. Jamie Trimboli was the highest-scoring midfielder in the nation and the first-line unit of Trimboli, Tucker Dordevic and Brendan Curry was on pace to have the third-highest scoring output in the program history by a midfield group. Additionally, Drake Porter led the ACC in save percentage.
