SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Lindsay Eastwood (ice hockey) and Jack Fiorini (men's lacrosse) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of May 11.
Â
Eastwood is a television, radio, and film graduate student in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She's held internships with the Syracuse Athletic Communications department, Syracuse's ACC Network affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, and Canadian Adult Recreational Hockey Association (CARHA) Hockey. She's on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was awarded the Syracuse Courage Award in 2018. Eastwood also earned the most prestigious award given to a student-athlete by the Department of Athletics, the Doris R. Soladay Award, Thursday night during the 2020 'Cuse Awards.
Â
The Kanata, Ontario, native was a 2019 AHCA All-American Scholar and is a two-time CHA All-Academic Team honoree. She's also earned a spot on the Newhouse Dean's List every semester since spring 2018. Eastwood holds the program record for career goals by a defender, 23, and her 75 career points are one shy of the program record for a blueliner. Eastwood earned College Hockey America's (CHA) Best Defender Award in her senior season, and also earned a spot on the All-CHA first team after recording 28 points (8-20) over 36 games.
Â
Fiorini is a communication and rhetorical studies major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. He's earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for five semesters and was named to the 2019 ACC Honor Roll. Fiorini missed the 2019 season due to injury but returned in 2020, playing in one game before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
'Cuse (5-0) finished the shortened 2020 season ranked No. 1 in the Inside Lacrosse/Maverik Media Poll. The Orange took over the top-spot on March 7 following a 15-9 victory over John Hopkins. 'Cuse outscored the competition 83-47 this year. Syracuse picked up nine Inside Lacrosse/Maverik Media All-American nods following the year. Jamie Trimboli and Brendan Curry were tabbed to the first team, while Peter Dearth and Drake Porter picked up second team honors. Brett Kennedy earned third-team honors, and Chase Scanlan, Stephen Rehfuss, Jakob Phaup and Tucker Dordevic all earned honorable mention nods.
