SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Lindsay Eastwood's esteemed career at Syracuse University culminated May 7 during the 2020 Virtual 'Cuse Awards with her earning the most prestigious honor annually given to two student-athletes by the Department of Athletics: The Doris R. Soladay Award. The three-year captain is just the second ice hockey student-athlete to earn the award, following Stephanie Grossi, who collected the honor in 2018.
Established in 1995 in honor of late Associate Athletics Director Doris R. Soladay, the Soladay Award is presented to one male and one female student‐athlete by the Department of Athletics who possesses a history of campus and community involvement, along with a history of positively influencing their peers personally, academically and athletically.
Eastwood earned her bachelor's degree in communications and rhetorical studies from the College of Visual and Performing Arts in May 2019 and officially added a master's in television, radio, and film from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications to her resumé last weekend.
The Kanata, Ontario, native has excelled in multiple ways both on and off the ice since first stepping foot on campus in 2015 and has truly embraced everything Syracuse University has offered. She has held internships with the Syracuse Athletic Communications department, Syracuse's ACC Network affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch, and Canadian Adult Recreational Hockey Association (CARHA) Hockey. She was on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), was a 2019 AHCA All-American Scholar, and is a two-time College Hockey America (CHA) All-Academic Team honoree. Eastwood also earned a spot on the Dean's List every semester since spring 2018.
Eastwood has produced numerous video series in the pursuit of promoting the ice hockey team as well. Last season, with the help of Allie Olnowich, she interviewed the Orange's four freshmen for Rookies on the Record and did 20 Questions with Lauren Bellefontaine, Allison Small and Logan Hicks. She also did color commentary for a pair of games for the Syracuse men's club hockey team.
Eastwood's distinguished career at Syracuse almost didn't happen. Just two weeks before she came to campus she was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that kept her from competing in her first season. After a year off the ice and a brief stint with the women's rowing team, the condition miraculously reversed itself the following summer and she went on to become a four-year starter for the Orange. Her demonstrated bravery in the face of adversity led to her being awarded the Syracuse 8 Courage Award in 2018.
The blueliner holds the program record for career goals by a defender, 23, and her 75 career points are one shy of the program record for a defender. Eastwood earned CHA Best Defender Award in her senior season, and also earned a spot on the All-CHA first team after recording 28 points (8-20) over 36 games. The highlight of her athletic career was captaining 'Cuse to the first CHA Tournament Title in program history in 2019, an effort that earned her a selection to the All-Tournament Team.
With her time at Syracuse University completed, the Ontarian is entertaining the possibility of playing professionally with the Professional Women's Hockey Players' Association (PWHPA). Eastwood is also looking to continue her broadcast career and is looking for production assistant jobs in the sports media and entertainment industries in New York City and Toronto. At the beginning of May she also announced that she's working with fellow Newhouse classmates Chiann Nobrega, Michelle Knezovic, and Alyssa Lyons to produce Locked in with the Ladies, a weekly video series housed on Youtube.
