Pro Orange: Alexander, Sykes Clinch Spots in the WNBA Playoffs

With the WNBA regular season winding down, Orange Alumnae Kayla Alexander and Brittney Sykes will extend their time in "The Wubble" at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., after both their teams secured a spot in the playoffs this week. Sykes and the Los Angels Sparks clinched third place while Alexander and the Minnesota Lynx earned the fourth place spot.
Alexander, a member of the Canaidan National Team, has appeared in 14 games during her first season with the Lynx. She averages 2.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per game while shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Alexander joined the Lynx after stints in Chicago (2019) and Indiana (2018). Drafted by San Antonio in in 2013, Alexander spent her first five seasons with the Stars before the team relocated to Las Vegas, and became the Aces.
Brittney Sykes averages 9.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting an impressive 49.1 percent from the field. She has scored in double digits nine times this season, most recently with a 19-point performance in a win over the Dallas Wings on Sept. 2. Sykes is in her first year with the Sparks and has started in all but seven games for L.A. She was drafted seventh overall by Atlanta becoming the highest WNBA draft pick in Syracuse women's basketball history and spent her first three seasons with the Dream. She was a WNBA All-Rookie Team selection in 2017 when she averaged 13.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 34 appearances.
