The Syracuse track and field teams got back to action on Friday night, on day one of the two-day Virginia Tech Invitational, in Blacksburg, Virginia.
'Cuse kicked off the meet with the women's 3000-meter run, which they were led by Jordan Jacob's time of 9:58.03. Her time was good for second place, where she was followed by Justus Holden-Betts (10:02.66), Abagail Spiers (10:08.38) and Olivia Elston (10:22.37) to round out the tip-five. Emma Eastman, Emma Wilson and Elizabeth Cultra were the next-three finishers in succession.
The men's race at the same distance immediately followed, where freshman Ethan Wechsler led the way in 8:33.54 in his first track meet for the Orange. Sam Lawler (8:36.95) and Kevin Robertson (8:39.48) were right on the heels of Wechsler to be the Orange's top-three finishers in the event. Gabriel Planty (8:51.00) and Matthew Dragon (9:14.26) rounded out the 'Cuse competitors. Dragon's time was a personal best.
Night one concluded with the men's mile, where Gavin Richards turned in a second-place finish in 4:14.68.
Syracuse will return to the track on Saturday, where the Orange will have runners in the men's and women's 5ks. Action gets underway at 2:40 p.m.
