1/17/2021 4:06:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Freshman Priscilla Williams scored a career-high 26 points, hitting 9-of-9 from the field, to lead #24/21 Syracuse to a 99-64 win against Miami in the Carrier Dome on Sunday. Williams connected on all six three-point field goals she attempted, becoming the second Syracuse player to shoot 100 percent from beyond the arc. Julie McBride was a perfect 4-of-4 twice in her career (2002 and 2003).
In the first quarter, the Orange (6-1 overall, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) built upon an early 11-4 lead with a 21-10 scoring run to take a 32-14 advantage at the end of the period. The Orange shot 76.5% from the field, including six three-point field goals. Miami (6-5, 3-5) matched Syracuse's 18 points in the second quarter before the Orange took control of the game in the third by opening up a 76-37 lead after 30 minutes.
Syracuse tied the Carrier Dome record for three-point field goals in a game with 17, en route to the highest scoring output and the largest margin of victory in the ACC this season. Five players scored in double-figures for the Orange, including Williams, center Kamilla Cardoso (17), forward Digna Strautmane (12), guard Emily Engstler (11) and guard Tiana Mangakahia (10). Engstler posted her second double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 11 points, while Mangakahia recorded her first this year, dishing out a season-high 10 assists to go with her 10 points.
Of Note:
Syracuse will host North Carolina on January 19 at Noon in the Dome (ACC Network) in the second of four games in an eight-day stretch. The Tar Heels handed Syracuse its only loss of the season, 92-68, on Dec. 17 at Carmichael Arena.
