Rookie defensive back Ja'Had Carter was named a Freshman All-American by Rivals.
He's the third member of the youthful 'Cuse defense to be named a freshman All-American, joining redshirt-freshman Garrett Williams (The Athletic) and fellow true freshman Stefon Thompson (Football Writers Association of America) in earning the honor.
Carter played in 11 games, starting 10 at safety. He led all 'Cuse DBs with 67 tackles, which trailed just teammate Mikel Jones (69) for the team lead. Carter had the seventh-most tackles in the ACC among defensive backs, he also had two interceptions, three pass breakups a forced fumble and a fumble recovery this season.
He emerged on the scene right away in his first start, leading the team with nine tackles at Pittsburgh and he made eight tackles and picked off a Jeff Sims pass, which he lateraled to Trill Williams for a touchdown, in his second start against Georgia Tech. He also had a career-high 13 tackles against NC State in the home finale.
Six 'Cuse freshman were starting on defense at the end of the year, three of which have now been named freshman All-Americans by a national publication.
