PITTSBURGH, PA. – The Orange lost to #16 Pitt, 3-2, in another double overtime contest. It is the second double overtime loss in the last five outings for Syracuse (5-5-1 overall and 1-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). Pittsburgh improves its record 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the ACC.
"They left it all out on the field tonight," said head coach Ian McIntyre. "I couldn't be more proud of the performance. We have a good group that works extremely hard and there is a lot more soccer left to play."
Each time Pittsburgh scored during regulation the Orange answered. In the sixth minute of the game, Pittsburgh senior midfielder Rodrigo Almeida scored the first goal to give the Panthers the early 1-0 lead. The Orange answered in the 29th minute when senior midfielder Hilli Goldar crossed the ball to junior forward Noah Singelmann who headed the ball in the left corner of the net to knot the score, 1-1.
The final five minutes of the game were dramatic with Pittsburgh's Arturo Ordonez heading the ball off of a corner kick into the top right corner of the Syracuse goal to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Syracuse responded to tie the game a second time when senior forward Manel Busquets scored on a penalty kick in the final minute of the game to force overtime.
In the 109th minute of the second overtime, Pittsburgh's freshman midfielder Guilherme Feitosa scored the game-winner off a corner from Jacquesso.
