SYRACUSE N.Y. – Syracuse kicked off a stretch of three games in seven days with a 3-0 win against Colgate at the SU Soccer Stadium to improve its record to 6-5-1 overall. Syracuse has won seven of the last eight meetings in the series with Colgate (0-11), which dates back to 1921. The Orange lead the series, 31-29-10.
In the 43rd minute of the game, freshman forward Francesco Pagano headed the ball past Colgate keeper Andrew Cooke goalie off a cross from junior midfielder Noah Singelmann on the left side to give the Orange a 1-0 lead.
The Orange kept the scoring going in the second half when sophomore forward Deandre Kerr fed the ball to senior forward Manel Busquets in front of the goal in the 59th minute to extend the lead to 2-0. Busquets spun and netted the ball in the right corner of the net. Freshman forward Julius Rauch closed the scoring with 57 seconds remaining in the game to mark his first collegiate goal and give the Orange the three goal victory.
"Job well done tonight," said head coach Ian McIntyre. "The big take away from tonight was getting a win after an emotional return from Pittsburgh. Now we can focus on a big ACC game against NC State on Friday."
