ORANGE WELCOME FAMILIAR FOE
• Syracuse has just two home games remaining on the 2021 slate, including Saturday's game against Boston College.
• The Eagles are the Orange's second-most frequent opponent of current ACC squads (54), trailing Pittsburgh (76).
• Syracuse hosts Boston College for the third-consecutive season.
• The game will air on ACC Regional Sports Network, with Evan Lepler (PxP), Charles Arbuckle (analyst) and Rebecca Florentino (reporter) on the call.
• Syracuse University is celebrating Orange Central/Homecoming this weekend.
• The Orange are 41-29 in Homecoming games.
SERIES HISTORY
• Syracuse and Boston College will meet for the 55th time. The Orange lead the all-time series, 32-22
• The Orange will host the Eagles for a third-straight year, which is a first in the series that dates back to 1924. One school has hosted two straight games three times previously - 1962-63 (Syracuse), 1966-67 (Boston College), 1969-70 (Syracuse).
• The squads met every year from 1969-2004. Fourteen of those contests (1991-2004) were played while both schools were members of The BIG EAST Conference.
• Since both became members of the ACC, the teams have split the eight games.
CLOSE CONTESTS
• Syracuse's victory at Virginia Tech was the Orange's fifth-consecutive game that was a one-possession outcome. It's the second time in program history that five-or-more consecutive games have been one-possession (8 points or less) decisions. The prior streak came in 1994 (5).
• In the modern era (post-WWII), the program record for most one-possession games in a single season is six. Most recently, six games in 2011 were decided by a single score or less. Prior to that, it was also done in 1994, 1971 and 1950.
• Each of the last five games have been decided by a score or missed scoring chance in the final minute of regulation or later.
• Syracuse kicked a game-winning field goal as time expired to defeat Liberty, Florida State did the same thing to SU the following week, Wake Forest defeated the Orange in OT three weeks ago, before Syracuse's game-tying field goal attempt missed two weeks ago vs. Clemson for the Tigers to hold on 17-14. The Orange's touchdown with 19 seconds remaining secured their win against the Hokies.
• Prior to last Saturday's game at Virginia Tech, four consecutive games were decided by 3-or-less points This is the second time in program history that 4-or-more games in a single season have been decided by three points or less. The other is 1981, but those games were not consecutive.
TUCKER LEADS THE NATION
• Freshman RB Sean Tucker leads the nation in rushing with 1,060 yards.
• He is the first FBS player to reach 1,000 yards rushing this season.
• Tucker is 63 yards ahead of Michigan State's Kenneth Walker III, who has recorded 997 yards. Bijan Robinson from Texas is third with 924 yards.
• That same trio sits atop the leader list for yards per game. Walker III leads the way with 142.4 yards per game, while Tucker is second at 132.5. Robinson is right behind at 132.0.
• Tucker is 11th in program history in single-season rushing, five yards behind Floyd Little.
TUCKER FASTEST TO 1K IN PROGRAM HISTORY
• RB Sean Tucker surpassed 1,000 yards rushing this season with his performance at Virginia Tech. He recorded 112 yards against the Hokies, giving him 1,060 this season.
• It marks the 17th time in program history a player has rushed for 1,000 yards in a season. Tucker is the 13th player to accomplish the feat.
• He joins Joe Morris as the only two players in school history to have 1,000 yards rushing after eight games. Morris had 1,022 in 1979 when he set the 'Cuse single-season rushing record.
• Tucker is the first FBS player in the nation to surpass 1,000 yards this season.
• He already ranks 11th on Syracuse's single-season rushing record list. Tucker needs six yards to surpass Floyd Little for 10th place.
• Tucker is on pace to set the program single-season rushing record of 1,372, which was set in 1979 by Joe Morris.
SHRADER JOINS ELITE COMPANY
• QB Garrett Shrader rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns in Syracuse's win at Virginia Tech.
• It was his third 100+ yard performance of the season. He needs one more to tie the single-season school record for most 100-yard games for a quarterback.
• Shrader has rushed for 592 yards this season, which is the second-highest total among FBS quarterbacks. Only Liberty's Malik Willis has more (647).
• He scored three touchdowns against the Hokies, giving him 12 rushing TDs this season. That total ties for fourth in the nation and ranks second among quarterbacks behind Louisville's Malik Cunningham.
• Earlier this season, Shrader became just the third Syracuse quarterback since 1979 to post back-to-back 100-yard rushing games (Florida State, Wake Forest). Bill Hurley was the first to accomplish the feat in 1979 (Northwestern, Washington State), while Eric Dungey matched Hurley's performance in 2017 (Miami, Florida State).
