Syracuse held a 1-0 lead through the first half and out shot the Big Red 12-0 in the first half and had a 4-0 advantage in penalty corners.Â
Three and half minutes into the third Laura Graziosi found the back of the goal for her seventh goal of the season to put the Orange ahead 2-0. Nine minutes later van den Nieuwenhof scored on a penalty corner, assisted by Quigley, for a 3-0 lead just before the end of the third frame.Â
Freshman Olivia Bell tallied the first goal of the SU career in the 55th minute when the ball ricocheted off her stick into the goal at the right post from Willemijn Boogert's cross. Bell's goal sparked an offensive push from the Orange that resulted in three goals in the final six minutes of action. With under three minutes to play van den Nieuwenhof found the back of the cage for the second time on a corner and was assisted by senior Tess Queen and junior back Marie Sommer with the insertion. Forty seconds later Comans tallied her second goal of the game, a reverse chip from the top corner, to make it 6-0 Syracuse with 57:56 on the clock.Â
Brooke Borzymowski improved to 9-4 overall and had her fifth solo shutout of the season. She turned away the only Cornell shot of the day in the final quarter of play.Â
Syracuse tallied 23 shots, 16 on goal, while holding the Big Red offense to just one shot. Syracuse had eight penalty corners and allowed zero for the visitors while earning their seventh home win of the season.Â
'Cuse will host the ACC Tournament for the first time in program history this week at Coyne. The Orange will face No. 7 seed Duke (6-10) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 4. When the two met during the regular season, the Orange earned a 7-2 road win on Oct. 16. It was the most goals the Blue Devils allowed in a game this season.Â
