• Syracuse is celebrating Family Weekend and Military Appreciation Day, sponsored by SEFCU on Saturday.
• Syracuse plays its first home ACC game when it hosts Wake Forest. The Orange are 2-1 in the Carrier Dome this season.
• The Orange will face their first ranked opponent of the year on Saturday. The Demon Deacons are ranked 19 in the AP poll and 20 in the coaches poll.
• The game will air on ESPN2, with Beth Mowins G'90 (PxP), Kirk Morrison (analyst) and Dawn Davenport (reporter) on the call. It marks the fourth time in six weeks that a Syracuse alum has served as the play-by-play announcer for the television broadcast.
SERIES HISTORY
• Syracuse and Wake Forest will meet for the 11th time overall. The Demon Deacons will visit the Carrier Dome for the third-consecutive year.
• The Orange own a 6-4 advantage in the series, including a 4-2 on their home field.Â
• The last four games between the teams have been high-scoring affairs. Syracuse has averaged 34.3 points during that span, while Wake Forest has recorded 39.0 points per game. The teams have split those four contests.
• Syracuse and Wake Forest first met in 2006 in Winston-Salem before a 2011 meeting in the Carrier Dome. The squads have met each year since the Orange joined the ACC in 2013.
SHRADER TO THE HOUSE
• QB Garrett Shrader put his name in the Syracuse record book with his performance at Florida State.
• The sophomore recorded three rushing touchdowns, which ties the single-game school record for most rushing touchdowns for a quarterback.Â
• It marked the ninth time that an 'Cuse quarterback has rushed for three touchdowns in a game. The last to accomplish the feat was Eric Dungey in 2018 against Boston College.
• Shrader is tied with teammate RB Sean Tucker for 12th in the nation in rushing touchdowns (7).
• Shrader finished with a career-high 137 yards rushing on 16 attempts. His 55-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was also a career best.
• It was his second-career 100-yard rushing performance. Shrader had 125 yards versus Kentucky in 2019 as a freshman at Mississippi State.
TUCKER ON RECORD SETTING TRACK
• Freshman RB Sean Tucker is on pace to have one of the most prolific single-season rushing totals in school history. Â
• Tucker has 638 yards rushing on 107 carries through five games.
• Only two other Orange running backs had more yards through five game - Joe Morris and Walter Reyes.
• Morris had 729 yards through five games in 1979 when he set the program single-season record of 1,372.
• Reyes recorded 721 yards in five games in 2003. He finished the year with 1,347 yards, which rank second on the single-season record list.
• Overall, Orange rushers have topped the 1,000 yard mark in a season 16 times.
JONATHAN NAMED CAMPBELL TROPHY SEMIFINALIST
• DL Kingsley Jonathan is a Campbell Trophy semifinalist for the second-straight season.
• The Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.
• Jonathan was a CoSIDA Academic All-American last season and was the recipient of the ACC's Jim Tatum Award, presented to the top senior football student-athlete in the league.
A WIN WOULD …Â
• Improve Dino Babers' record to 28-38 as head coach of the Orange.
• Improve Syracuse's record at home to 3-1 this season.
• Give Syracuse its 740th all-time victory (includes 11 wins from 2004-06 that were vacated by the NCAA). The Orange currently rank 22nd on the FBS ledger of winningest programs. Syracuse is one of 31 FBS schools to have accumulated 700+ wins.
