The Orange look to add on to a successful season opener when they take on Drexel in the Dome on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 5:00 p.m.
SETTING THE STAGE
Syracuse opened its regular season with a 97-63 win against Lafayette. All five starters scored in double figures, led by Joseph Girard III, who contributed 20 points and seven assists. He was five-of-five on his 3-point attempts.
The Dragons were also impressive in their season-opening performance, downing Neumann 103-74 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Drexel won the Colonial Athletic Conference Tournament title last March and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 25 years.
THE SYRACUSE-DREXEL SERIES
Syracuse and Drexel have met four times with the Orange having won all but one of those encounters. The teams have not met since 2010, when Syracuse defeated Drexel 93-65.
SYRACUSE STARTERS CONTINUE TO THRIVE
In addition to Girard's standout numbers, Buddy Boeheim and Jimmy Boeheim both added 18 and Cole Swider dropped 14 in his regular season debut. Swider also hauled in a career-high 12 rebounds to lead both teams. Junior center Jesse Edwards notched a new career-high with 11 points.
BUTLERÂ LEADS DREXEL WITH SCORING, REBOUNDING
Graduate forward James Butler led the Dragons against Neumann with 16 points and six rebounds. He shot 7-of-8 from the field and did not commit a turnover in 23 minutes. He is known for stuffing the stat sheet for the Dragons after recording nine double-doubles a season ago. Butler has 838 rebounds in 86 games at Drexel, good for seventh all-time in program history.
