
Orange Lose Close Battle to Minnesota

Syracuse (2-3) lost a close back-and-forth battle to Minnesota (4-2), 70-63, on Sunday night at the Bad Boy Mowers Women's Battle 4 Atlantis. Syracuse will face Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22. Chrislyn Carr ha a team-high 18 points and Christianna Carr added 16 points while Naje Murray and Alaysia Styles added double figures with 14 points and 10 points respectively.Â
Minnesota jumped out to an 8-0 start but the Orange stormed back and cut it to a 13-11 Gopher lead with 1:28 to go after a Murray layup. Syracuse trailed by three, 17-14, at the end of the first. Syracuse outscored Minnesota 17-12 in the second frame to lead 31-29 at halftime.Â
The Gophers had their highest-scoring quarter in the third tallying 27 points while 'Cuse was held to 17 points. Minnesota took its largest lead of the game by 11 points with 3:13 to go in the fourth but Syracuse chipped away and cut it to six with under a minute to go. The Big Ten foe held on to escape with the seven point with after the teams exchanged free throws down to the buzzer.Â
Syracuse shot 32 percent from the field and 32 percent from three-point range, an improvement on Saturday's 25 percent performance from downtown against No. 23 South Florida. Minnesota was 39 percent from the field and was led by Kadiatou Sissoko who posted the game's only double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds.Â
