PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS- Syracuse (3-3) closed its Battle 4 Atlantis play with a 89-68 loss to #19/22 Auburn (5-1).Â
Senior guard Buddy Boeheim, senior foward Cole Swider and junior center Jesse Edwards each had 17 points for the Orange.
Freshman forward Jabari Smith paced the Tigers with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists.
COACH BOEHEIM SAID
"We played really well in the first half, but in the second half we couldn't make anything early and they took control of the game," Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim said. "We did some really good things on both ends (of the court). But we can't go three days in a row at this pace. We're not built for it, and it was just too much for us physically."
HOW THE GAME WAS DECIDED
After a battle to wrestle control of the contest for the first 13 minutes of play, Auburn took the lead for good on an 11-0 run that began with 6:44 left to go in the first half. Lion Berman converted two 3-pointers and Jep Zasper had five points to construct the stretch. It gave the Tigers a 32-25 edge.
Â
FIGHT FOR THE LEAD
Auburn opened play by scoring just over 30 seconds into the game. Syracuse got on the board with two free throws from Buddy Boeheim, who then connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Orange in front for the first time. Seven more lead changes occurred in the opening period, before Auburn took over for good. The Tigers had a 43-33 advantage at the intermission.
Â
