
Five Orange Earn Preseason All-America Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Â Five Syracuse players have been named to USA Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason All-America Team. Graduate student Emily Hawryschuk and senior Sarah Cooper were selected to the first team, while graduate student Sam Swart and senior Meaghan Tyrrell are second-team honorees. In addition, senior Megan Carney was named to the third team.

Hawryschuk enters the 2022 campaign ranked fifth on Syracuse's all-time points list with 254. She is a two-time first-team All-American and has been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List the past two seasons. Hawryschuk returns for her sixth season after suffering a season-ending knee injury last February.

Cooper, a 2021 IWLCA First Team All-American, is a three-year starter on the Orange's defense. She led Syracuse and ranked second in the ACC in ground balls per game (2.29) last season. She recorded career highs in ground balls (48) and tied her career best with 33 caused turnovers. Cooper earned All-ACC First Team honors and was one of 25 candidates for the Tewaaraton Award.

Swart posted career highs in points (46) and goals (39) in 2021. The midfielder also picked up a career-best 17 ground balls to go along with four caused turnovers. Swart was named an honorable mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse and earned first-team All-Northeast Region and second-team All-ACC accolades.

Tyrrell ranked third in the final NCAA statistics in points (112), seventh in goals (68) and 10th in assists (44) last season. Tyrrell, who earned first-team IWLCA All-America accolades and was named a Tewaaraton Award nominee, is just the fourth Syracuse player to record 100 points in a season. Her 112 points tie for third on the school's single-season record list, while her 68 goals rank eighth. In addition, her 44 assists are the fourth-most by a member of the Orange.

Carney was a Tewaaraton Award nominee and ranked eighth in the nation in points (69) and ninth in goals (49) when she suffered a season-ending knee injury. She was voted to the IWLCA All-America Second Team. Carney recorded five or more points 10 times last season, including a career-high 10 points against Louisville.
