Senior defender Jessica DiGirolamo netted her first career hat trick to lead the Orange to a 4-1 win over Lindenwood at the Centene Community Ice Center on Friday night. The victory extends Syracuse's win streak against Lindenwood to 12 games. The Orange (4-8-1 overall, 4-6-1 College Hockey America) and the Lions will square off again on Saturday at 4:30 pm in a game that will be streamed on Stretch.
"We showed a lot of charachter in the third period, particularly in the last 10 minutes of the game," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "Lindenwood made us earn it. The win gives us some much needed momentum for tomorrow."
Â
DiGirolamo scored the first goal of the game by firing a shot from the blue line through three Lindenwood defenders 10 minutes into the contest. Sophomore Brynn Koocher set up the score. DiGirolamo tallied her second goal with nine minutes remaining in the third period finding the back of the net sliding on her knees across the goal mouth. Junior forwards Abby Moloughney and Lauren Bellefontaine earned the assists. DiGirolamo scored the hat honors goal on a shot as she came screaming across the front of the net to seal the game with less than five minutes remaining. Bellefontaine recorded her second assist of the game on DiGirolamo's third goal. It was the first hat trick by an Orange skater since forward Victoria Klimek lit the lamp three times against Lindenwood in the 2020 CHA Tournament.
Â
Sophomore Anna Leschyshyn also scored for the Orange, netting a goal with nine minutes remaining in the game on an assist from junior Shelby Calof. Leschyshyn redirected a pass sneaking the puck past LU goalie Annika Asplundh.
Â
Orange senior goaltender Allison Small made 24 saves, increasing her career total to 992. She is set to join five other 'Cuse goalies who have achieved more than 1,000 career saves.
