SYRACUSE, N.Y.— Coming off a road victory at Notre Dame last Sunday, Syracuse women's tennis returns home to the Drumlins Tennis Center for a pair of ACC matches this weekend. The Orange take on Virginia Tech on Friday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. and No. 15 Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Orange split the last weekend's slate. They lost to Louisville, 4-3, then defeated Notre Dame, 4-3. In both matches Syracuse conceded the doubles point, but made its push in the singles matches.

Against Louisville, the Orange found themselves down 3-0 after they lost the doubles point, Chelsea Sawyer defeated Miranda Ramirez, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4, and Andrea Di Palma bested Guzal Yusupova, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. The 'Cuse came stormed back, securing three points in a row with victories from Natalie Novotna, Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, and Polina Kozyreva. However, they ultimately fell short as Louisville's Rhea Verma defeated freshman Ines Fonte to seal the victory.

Against Notre Dame, the beginning was eerily similar, but the Orange were able to overcome the deficit and secure a victory. After it lost the doubles point, Syracuse secured a point at No. 6 singles after a forfeit. When it was all said and done this one still came down to the final two matches. Novotna and Kanapatskaya delivered. Kanapatskaya's third straight singles victory and Novotna's fourth straight gave  the Orange a 4-3 victory.Â

SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
Virginia Tech is 2-4 on the young season and lost 7-0 to No. 11 Duke the last time out. The squad is led by senior Nina Sorkin, who is 4-1, and freshman Tamara Barad Itzhaki, who has posted a 3-1 mark. Coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Holdren is in her 17th season at the helm and has guided the Hokies to two NCAA tournament appearances.

The last time these two teams played was in Spring 2019, The Orange defeated the Hokies, 6-1.

No. 15 Virginia (4-2) is coming off a 5-2 setback to No. 1 North Carolina. The Cavaliers and Orange both lost to Ohio State at ITA kickoff weekend. The Orange were swept, but Virginia managed to steal two points. The Cavaliers are led by Sara O'Leary, who is in her fourth season at Virginia.
