THE GAME
- Syracuse hosts Holy Cross for the first time, seeking their fourth-straight win.
- The game will be broadcast on ACC Network with Anish Shroff '04 Â (PxP) and Orange All-American midfielder Paul Carcaterra '97 (analyst) on the call. Brian Higgins '04 (PxP) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
THE HOLY CROSSÂ SERIES
- Syracuse and Holy Cross will face each other for the first time on Friday.
- The game came about after Syracuse's originally scheduled game vs. Hofstra and the Crusaders' originally scheduled game vs. Army were both postponed due to COVID-19 protocols with each opponent.
- This is the Orange's third-straight week facing a first-time opponent. Prior to this season, the Orange had not added a new foe to its regular season slate since 2013, when the team played Canisius.Â
- Syracuse attackman Stephen Rehfuss spent his first collegiate fall on the Holy Cross team, but elected to transfer to Syracuse the following year. However it isn't much of a familiar opponent for him as no current members of the roster or coaching staff were there during his freshman year (15-16).Â
-Â Attackman Chase Scanlan is the only current member of the Orange to have played Holy Cross, doing so when he was at Loyola in 2019. He notched five goals and two assists, which was a career high at the time during their meeting.
TOUGH ROAD AHEAD
- After Saturday's game vs. Holy Cross, Syracuse will play five of their next-six games against teams ranked in the USILA top-10.
- The Orange have or will play seven teams in the top-10 this season, a mark that ties Virginia, Duke and North Carolina for the current national lead. Syracuse and UVA both played Army in February and the other six games come against league foes. Duke and Carolina's other top-10 opponent is current No. 10 Denver.Â
- Notre Dame (6) and Marquette (5) face the next-most top-10 opponents this season.
DOME-INATION
- Syracuse is 251-41 (.860) in the Carrier Dome since it began playing the majority of its home games there in 1981.
- The Orange finished 5-2 in the Dome in 2019, 4-0 in 2020 and is 3-1 this season.
- 'Cuse has won 41 of its last-50 home games.
- The Orange have also earned a first-round 'Dome Game' in the NCAA Tournament in six of the last seven seasons which an NCAA Tournament was held.
A WIN AGAINST HOLY CROSS WOULD...
- Be the program's 921st victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Be the 526th win John Desko has been part of at Syracuse, including his time as a player, assistant and head coach. Only 18 NCAA Division I programs have more total wins as a program than Desko has been on the Orange sideline for
