
Orange, #15 Tar Heels Play to 0-0 Draw

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse earned a point in the ACC standings after tying No. 15 North Carolina, 0-0, at the SU Soccer Stadium on Saturday, March 20 Redshirt sophomore Russell Shealy made three saves to record his first shutout as a member of the Orange.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The match featured limited chances for both teams. The Tar Heels (5-3-3, 5-1-3 ACC) had eight shots total, only three on goal that were all stopped by Shealy.

The Orange's (1-6-4, 0-5-3) best opportunity came at the end of regulation. The ball was played forward out of Syracuse's defensive end and junior Manel Busquets caught up with the pass just inside the box. He appeared to have scored the game winner just before the buzzer, but was called for a foul instead, sending the game to overtime.

The 'Cuse's best chance in the extra sessions came in the 97th minute, but junior Hilli Goldhar's shot went high.

The game marked the Orange's first clean sheet of the season. It was Shealy's fourth career shutout but first since transferring to Syracuse from Maryland for the 2020-21 season.
