Orange Sweep Pittsburgh with 9-3 Win

The Syracuse softball team earned its first ACC series sweep of the season with a 9-3 win over Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon. Kaia Oliver threw six innings allowing three runs, one earned, and striking out five. The sweep marks the first for the Orange in league play since a three-game series against NC State in 2018. The Orange outscored Pittsburgh 31-8 in the series and hit .342 as a team. 
Gabby Teran's RBI single in the top of the first put Syracuse ahead 1-0. It was the fourth-straight game the Orange scored a run in the first inning. Pittsburgh evened things with a solo home run to lead off the second inning but Oliver retired the next three batters.Â
Toni Martin set the tone for Syracuse's offense with a one-out single through the left side. Paris Woods followed with a single to right field which put a runner in scoring position when Martin advanced to second. Calista Almer hit an RBI double to make it a 2-1 Orange lead.Â
The Panthers went to the bullpen in the fourth but Syracuse continued to tack on runs. Woods scored on a passed ball and an Angel Jasso double to left center field made it a 4-1 game.Â
Teran began a two-out rally when she drew a walk to place runners on first anf second. Three straight walks for the Orange for Lailoni Mayfield, Makena Fidler and Rebecca Clyde loaded the bases and then scored two runs, respectively, for a 6-1 Syracuse lead.Â
Pittsburgh scored a pair of runs on a RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth to cut Syracuse's lead to 6-3. 'Cuse added three insurance runs on one hit and three Pittsburgh errors in the top of the seventh to make it 9-3. Alexa Romero came in to relieve Oliver in the bottom of the seventh and retired three-straight batters after allowing a leadoff single to secure Syracuse's fourth-straight win.Â
Four Orange had multi-hit games including Angel Jasso who was 2-for-5 with with two RBI. Teran was a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks and a hit by pitch. Martin and Woods each had a pair of hits and stole two bases each.Â
Syracuse improves to 10-9 overall and 6-6 in the ACC. The Orange will host Georgia Tech for a four-game series beginning Thursday, April 1, at 5 p.m.
