A solo home run by senior Gabby Teran lifted Syracuse to a 1-0 win road win over UMass Friday afternoon in Amherst. Alexa Romero threw her second complete game of the season striking out a season-high 13 batters in the win.
Romero allowed two runners on in the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff single by Bella Pantoja and a walk but escaped the inning unscathed. Syracuse left a pair of runners on base in the top of the second, but went down in order the next four innings. Romero's dominance in the circle continued with a pair of strikeouts in the third and fourth innings. In the bottom of the fifth Romero two quick strikeouts but the Minutewomen had a baserunner when Jules Shields worked a two-out walk. Romero struck out Caroline Videtto swinging to end the inning.Â
A leadoff double in the bottom of the sixth gave UMass a baserunner but Romero once again escaped with runners in scoring position. In the next half of the inning Teran's solo shot with one out gave the Orange the power they needed to break the 0-0 stalemate. Romero closed the door with a 1-2-3 inning to secure the 1-0 win.Â
Teran went 2-for-3 at the plate are drove in her seventh RBI of the season.Â
