#14 Duke Tops Orange on Senior Day

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Graduate student Guzal Yusupova defeated the No. 27-ranked singles player in the nation in Syracuse's 4-3 loss to No. 14 Duke at the Drumlins Tennis Club on Sunday. Yusupova was one of four members of the Orange honored in a pre-match ceremony on Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Duke (13-5, 8-4) took the early lead by securing the doubles point. The sixth-ranked pair of Maible Chi and Margaryta Bilokin defeated the Orange's top duo of No. 28 Natalie Novotna and Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, 6-2. No. 10 Chloe Beck and Karolina Berankova also posted a 6-2 victory against Polina Koyzreva and Sofya Treshcheva at No. 2 doubles.

The Blue Devils won the first three singles matches to finish to claim the victory, but the Orange (6-10, 5-8) won the final three singles matches for the 4-3 final. Zeynep Erman recorded her second consecutive singles victory, defeating Bilokin, 7-5, 6-3, in the No. 5 spot, while Koyzreva came back after losing the first set to post a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles against Berankova.

The final match to finish was between Yusupova and No. 27 Kelly Chen. Yusupova won the first set, 6-4, but Chen rallied to win the second set, 6-4. Yusupova won the third and deciding set, 6-4, for the victory.

Yusupova, Novotna, Miranda Ramirez and Sofya Golubovska were recognized for their contributions to the Orange program prior to Syracuse's final home match of the season.
