
Orange Open ACC Tournament Play Thursday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse is the No. 9 seed in the ACC Women's Tennis Tournament that takes place this week at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The Orange earned a first-round bye and will take on No. 8 seed Wake Forest in the second round on Thursday, April 22 at 9 a.m.

Syracuse defeated Marshall, 6-1, on Sunday in the regular-season finale to improve its overall record to 7-10. The Orange came in at No. 43 in the latest ITA rankings released last Wednesday. Wake Forest was No. 33 in the poll. The Demon Deacons enter Thursday's match with a 10-11 record after losing at No. 16 Duke, 5-2, in their final match of the regular season on Sunday.

The teams met earlier this season in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons took the doubles points with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. Wake Forest carried that momentum into singles play where it won five of six matches for the 6-1 victory.

In that match, Wake Forest's Carolyn Campana defeated Syracuse freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1 singles. Kanapatskaya is ranked No. 14 in the latest ITA singles rankings, while Campana is right behind at No. 15.

The winner of the Syracuse-Wake Forest match advances to the third round where it will take on North Carolina. The Tar Heels are the top seed in the tournament and the No. 1 team in the nation with a 23-0 dual match record.
